AAU Anastas

AAU ANASTAS

An architecture firm with offices in Bethlehem and Paris, AAU employs architects, town planners and engineers (civil, structural, electrical, mechanical) thus allowing the firm access to projects involving a complete range of disciplines in-house.

AAU ANASTAS’s architecture philosophy is driven by the pursuit of quality aiming to improve durable developments with a sense of community.

el-Atlal will be built as part of AAU’s department of research on the engineering of stone. As such the residency will benefit from AAU’s findings in stone architecture and the building itself will be an experimental application of their research, mirroring el-Atlal’s aim to emphasize groundbreaking initiatives.

Among their recent accomplishments are the Edward Said National Conservatory in Beit Sahour and the Stonesourcing Project.

Local Industries

Local Industries

Local Industries was founded in 2010 by Elias Anastas. Anastas was looking for a way to insert local craft techniques to his work. His keen interest with furniture stems from his architectural work. Local Industries’ goal is to offer to an international clientele a highly functional furniture crafted by local artisans. This endeavour aims to reassert the value of local Palestinian labour.

LI works with specific Palestinian artisans: the conception and production of furniture happens through a constant back-and-forth between all the agents thus undermining the usual boundaries which separate conception from production. Here, conception stems from the means of production and in return the means of production adapt accordingly.

LI thus hopes to bring a new impulse to dying crafts and industries all the while offering a type of furniture which is inscribed within a longstanding history of quality and also adapted to today’s world.
